Karl Lagerfield is saying here, that he finds it is flattering when someone counterfeits his products. Most companies (brand names) choose to say this in public, so it will not hurt their image or say, "I am sooo flattered" however, behind the scenes, its a WHOLE different story. Not one single company is happy that their margins are being made smaller, nor likes it when the "cleaning person" of your rather large estate, is wearing the "same" items of clothing which you have paid full price for. This is how MCM, went bankrupt... I bought a shower gel once thinking I was getting a bargain, £1 for a bottle of Palmolive, two days later, my whole body broke out in a rash... I will not purchase this product ever again, nor use it becasue I am afraid of what happened to me... There ARE economical quality products but they are hard to find because of all the counterfeit imports. Conunterfeits create the illusion of having these luxury products, as I was talking about MCM and how they went bankrupt due to the fact that that EVERYONE was running around with their bags, so it was not exclusive anymore... As we hear in this video, "I always thought that secretly having this black market was good for fashion...it created PR and desire for the product". This is just NOT true! If it was, then companies like Gucci and Prada would have adverts in the local supermarket leaflets, or would even sell their products there... Exclusive is the key word here.... One would think that counterfeits are there because of the demand of the product and if it would be made cheaper, everyone would buy it... Well, would you buy medicine that was not real medicine? Would you feel safe with not knowing what you are putting in your body? Who would you go and complain too about your skin falling off??
i wrote about the chanel counterfeits once. it's become some sort of hipster chic in downtown nyc to the point where it's not uncommon to see chanel logo tattoos. in my opinion, the symbol has become so kitsch and almost tacky. i don't think lagerfeld was aiming for that result.
